Install and activate your eSIM

Your eSIM is ready in My eSIMs right after purchase, with a QR code and two codes for manual install. Install it on WiFi before you fly, and switch it on when you land. The whole install takes two or three minutes.

Before you start

  • A phone that supports eSIM and is not carrier locked (see the compatible phones list).
  • A stable WiFi connection; the phone downloads the eSIM profile during install.
  • The QR code open on another screen (laptop, tablet), or the SM-DP+ address and activation code copied for manual install.

Most eSIMs can be installed only once. Do not delete the eSIM until your trip is over; switch the line off instead.

Install on iPhone

  1. 01.Open Settings and tap Cellular (Mobile Data in some regions).
  2. 02.Tap Add eSIM, then Use QR Code.
  3. 03.Point the camera at the QR code from My eSIMs. With one phone only, tap Enter Details Manually and paste the SM-DP+ address and the activation code.
  4. 04.Give the new line a clear name such as Travel. Keep your home line as the default line for calls and texts.
  5. 05.Under Cellular Data choose the travel eSIM. Leave Allow Cellular Data Switching off so your home line does not use data abroad.
  6. 06.When you land, open Cellular, tap the travel eSIM, turn on This Line and Data Roaming.

Install on Samsung Galaxy

  1. 01.Open Settings, tap Connections, then SIM manager.
  2. 02.Tap Add eSIM, then Scan QR code from service provider. To type the codes, choose Enter activation code.
  3. 03.Scan the QR code and confirm. The eSIM appears in SIM manager.
  4. 04.Under Mobile data choose the travel eSIM. Keep calls and messages on your home SIM.
  5. 05.When you land, go to Settings, Connections, Mobile networks and turn on Data roaming.

Install on Google Pixel and other Android phones

  1. 01.Open Settings, tap Network and internet, then SIMs.
  2. 02.Tap Add SIM or the plus sign, then Download a SIM instead.
  3. 03.Scan the QR code, or tap Need help? and enter the codes yourself.
  4. 04.Set the new eSIM as the SIM for mobile data, and turn on Roaming for it when you arrive.

Menu names vary by maker and Android version. Search for eSIM or SIM in the Settings search bar to reach the same screen.

If the eSIM does not connect on arrival

  • Check that the travel eSIM line is on and selected for mobile data.
  • Check that data roaming is on for the travel eSIM (it is a roaming profile on most networks).
  • Switch airplane mode on, wait 30 seconds and switch it off so the phone searches again.
  • In the carrier or network operator settings, turn off automatic selection and choose one of the partner networks named on the destination page.
  • Restart the phone. Most connection problems end at this step.

Checking your validity and data

The validity period starts when the eSIM first connects at your destination, so installing early never costs you days.

A fixed data plan ends when its data or its days run out. An unlimited plan runs at full speed up to its daily amount (3GB on most destinations, 5GB on some) and then at 1 Mbps for the rest of that day.

Need more data? Buy another plan for the same destination and install it as a new eSIM; your phone can store several.

Questions about this topic

Can I install the eSIM at the airport?

Yes, on the airport WiFi. It is easier at home or at the hotel the day before, so you are not rushed if the WiFi is slow.

Do I need to turn on data roaming?

Yes, for the travel eSIM line. Data roaming on that line costs nothing extra; it simply lets the eSIM use the partner network abroad. Keep roaming off on your home line.

Can I install the same QR code on two phones?

No. Each eSIM can be installed on one phone. Buy one eSIM per device; at checkout you can choose a quantity up to 100.
