What is a travel eSIM?

A travel eSIM is a digital SIM profile with a prepaid data plan for another country. You download it to the eSIM chip that is already inside your phone by scanning a QR code, so there is no plastic card to post, swap or lose. Once you land, the eSIM connects to a local partner network and you browse at local speeds instead of paying roaming rates.

Does the eSIM come with a phone number?

No. Every eSIMTrip plan is data only: no phone number and no SMS. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts from home if you like, and use the eSIM for data. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal and other app calls work over the eSIM data like on any internet connection.

Will my phone work with an eSIM?

Most phones released since 2019 support eSIM, for example iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 3 and newer, as long as the phone is not locked to one carrier. Dial *#06# on your phone: if an EID number appears, the phone has an eSIM chip. The compatible phones page lists the models.

Can I keep my own SIM card in the phone?

Yes. Dual SIM phones run your home SIM and the travel eSIM side by side. Set the travel eSIM as the line for mobile data and keep your home line for calls and texts, or switch your home line off to avoid roaming charges on it.

When does the validity period start?

The plan's days start when the eSIM first connects to a supported network at your destination, not when you buy it and not when you install it. You can install a few days before you fly without losing any days.

Is an unlimited plan really unlimited?

You can use data for the whole period. Each day the first 3GB (5GB on some destinations, shown on the plan) run at full speed; after that the eSIM keeps working at 1 Mbps for the rest of that day, which is enough for maps, messages and music. Full speed returns the next day.

Can I share data with a hotspot?

Personal hotspot works on most partner networks, so a laptop or a second phone can share the eSIM data. A few local operators restrict tethering; if sharing does not start, restart the hotspot after the eSIM has connected.

Do I need to delete the eSIM after my trip?

No. You can leave it on the phone; it simply stops working when the data or the days run out. If you buy another plan for the same place later, it arrives as a new eSIM with its own QR code.
